Julia Heavner, Psy.D., sees individuals and couples for therapy. She is passionate about helping clients to build lives that feel full of peace, happiness, and interpersonal connection. Julia considers cultural and individual identity factors as she works to establish a collaborative therapeutic environment in which each client feel safe, empowered, and heard.

Julia’s expertise includes helping clients with:

  • romantic relationship concerns
  • religious/spiritual identity issues
  • ADHD/executive functioning challenges
  • deficits in interpersonal communication
  • feelings of isolation or loneliness

In her work with couples, Julia uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method. When seeing individuals, she draws from training in psychodynamic theory, DBT, and relational approaches.

Prior to working full time in private practice, she worked in a community mental health setting and several university counseling centers (United States Naval Academy, Notre Dame University of Maryland, and University of Maryland, Baltimore County). She has valuable experience working with a wide range of mental health issues across diverse patient populations; her work has included psychoeducational assessments and individual, couples, and group psychotherapy. Most recently she has received specialized training and supervision in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and families.

Dr. Heavner also provides educational workshops on a range of topics, upon request. Topics she has presented on in the past include:

Availability

Julia offers telehealth appointments and a small number of in-person sessions. She can see telehealth clients in Maryland and all participating PSYPACT states and territories. Click here for a map of participating states.

In person sessions are held in the office which is conveniently and centrally located in Baltimore County, Maryland close to downtown Towson. Julia sees clients Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM. Reach out to her to inquire about current openings.

Fees

Intake Session (1.5 hours): $270

Follow-up Sessions (1 hour): $180
